Rendering, painting, repointing and replacement windows all need trades working across the full face of the building rather than at roof level. That means a scaffold covering the elevations being worked on, boarded at each lift so they can reach every part of the wall.
These jobs also run longer than roofing - render needs curing time between coats, painting depends on the weather. Ask about the hire period, not just the erection cost, because that's where the real money is.

You need lifts at working height, not roof height
Scaffold built for roofers is the wrong shape for wall work. You want lifts close enough together that you're not reaching, boards tight to the wall so you can work the surface properly, and enough clearance for a spray or a scratch coat.

Rendering and re-rendering
Multi-coat work with curing time between stages, so the scaffold is up longer than the labour days suggest. Boards need to sit close to the wall to work the surface properly.
External painting and decorating
Full elevations, and weather-dependent - a wet fortnight means the scaffold stays up doing nothing. Worth agreeing a realistic hire period rather than an optimistic one.
Repointing and brickwork repair
Slow, methodical work across large wall areas. Lift spacing matters more here than almost any other job because the trade is working the whole surface.
Window and door replacement
Access at each opening, with room to remove old frames and lift new units in. Upper-floor windows on a busy street often need a protection fan over the pavement.
Cladding and insulation
External wall insulation and cladding add depth to the building, so the scaffold has to be set out with that in mind from the start rather than adjusted later.
Damp and structural repairs
Often exploratory - the scope grows once the wall is opened up. We'd rather extend the hire than have the job stall.
Cost
Why hire period matters more than erection cost
On a roofing job the scaffold is often up for days. On rendering or external painting it can be weeks, because the work itself is slower and weather-dependent. That changes which number you should be comparing.
A cheap erection price with an aggressive weekly rate can easily cost more over a six-week render than a fairer all-in quote. We give you one price covering erection, the expected hire period and the strike, so you can compare like with like rather than being surprised at week four.
